Walking to Stay Fit!

@ 9:14 am

100,000 STEPS! The afterschool children are “walking” to the Mall of America, Camp Snoopy Theme Park.

The afterschool program implemented a “Staying Healthy & Fit”  week and all the children were given walk pedometers and together the group set a goal of how many miles/steps they wanted to walk in just one week to promote healthy exercise activities. Throughout the week the children also incorporated fun activities that involve healthy eating habits and exercise. Some of the activities included playing Food Pyramid Bingo, painting with fruits & vegetables, and learning how to make a healthy trail mix for snack. During the beautiful Fall days the children also spent a good portion of the afternoon outside playing different games and using their walk pedometers to continue to add on the steps in order to reach their goal!

And they did it…

202,000 Steps!!! The afterschool program made it to their goal of 100,000 and just kept on walking. In celebration of reaching this incredible goal the children had a Fruit Smoothie Party that tied in with their “Staying Healthy & Fit” theme!

Our Class Loves to Read!

@ 9:02 am

Reading is important at any age so at Hope Care we strive to incorporate a variety of books each day. Each program within Hope Care implements different themed lesson plans and then find various books that will tie in with each theme. The daycare children have been learning about sea life and reading books about sea turtles, star fish, crabs, jelly fish and many more. The PreK children have been learning about the farm and reading different stories about farm animals and farm life.

We are also very excited that starting in November we will be joining the Scholastic Book Club. This opportunity will allow all Hope Care families to enjoy a variety of age appropriate books while at the same time earning free books for their child’s classroom.
